I moved to Los Angeles from Claremont, CA to pursue a career as a television commercial actress and a print model. While spending many years in that vocation, and traveling, I'd visit every art gallery and museum. As a child, I sat in front of the TV and drew cartoons as I watched them. Sketches and drawings with pencil became my favorite medium until I discovered oils and acrylics. I wanted to paint everything I saw or handled from oranges, to house keys, to any object that caught my interest. I am mostly self-taught, and have learned unique painting techniques as I've studied paintings up close. My travels opened up doors for my art and I always brought back new ideas. I believe that practice is what it's all about. And passion.
For some of my work, I use bold paint colors on dark backgrounds; I've discovered gold paints and have fallen in love with the look they portray on canvas; and I've always been intrigued with Abstract Landscapes as well as still life and scenes with people. To be in a box of painting only one way, or one thing, is holding back what you are passionate about, and your creativity doesn't flow. I love to paint every single object and make them into a unique conversation piece, like my Palisades Park, and scenes in Santa Monica pieces. You could call my work Representationalism, but I also enjoy painting abstractions. Sometimes, both are combined in my work. It's been said that I've mastered reflections and shadows. The most common phrase that people have commented on my art is, "There's so much peace in your art. I can sit back and stare at it and meditate on good things."
Europe was an inspiration for me to continue to explore my talent with paint. I virtually lived at the Louvre, then moved onto England. I flew to Holland to study the Masters of Dutch art up close. My desire to paint expanded over the years. My work has been displayed in national galleries, like Galerie Gabrie in Pasadena, CA and Joseph Gierek Fine Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My work was also displayed in galleries in Atlanta, Brentwood, Scottsdale, and Denver. It was also featured in The Museum of History Show in Pasadena, and is sold all over the world on Posters published by Winn Devon. My credits are under my former name, Bryson. I recently changed back to Engel.
All of my work is original on quality canvas with Golden Acrylic paints. If you give me a paintbrush, I will paint any type of art, and will always explore within my talent.
